P74 | TEMPORARY MASS, PERMANENT INDIVIDUALITY. Mixed-use structures adjacent to Inönü Stadium in Istanbul.

by Lale Ceylan

Temporary mass* _situation. Stadiums, where only the masses live, are spaces that only one can exist with masses. What forms your presence here is ‘being in the masses’. Here, the existence of individuals one by one, what they feel or their individual differences have got no meaning. The individual’s reason for being there is 'unity', 'whole' or in other words, 'creation of mass'. Permanent individuality* _Question. If the Inönü stadium is one of these places where the masses live, its northern area -within the stadium program- could it accommodate a system where permanent individuality can exist?
* This contrast -or the existence of temporary mass- is seen more as a chance than an obstacle to the existence of permanent individuality.
