P45 | re_DESIGN OF AN URBAN IDENTITY

by Fulvia Nigita / Salvatore Persano

Enna is an ancient city of Sicily, known to be the highest Italian province capital, located at 930 meters above sea level. With the territorial evolution causing the so-called "Sprawl Effect" that consists of an unregulated urban sprawl, Enna Bassa is considered the new city. The project analyzed the whole fabric of the town of Enna (High, Low and Pergusa) and identified a common thread linking the three systems which seem disconnected for the relevant orography. The river of Enna is Torcicoda. Its watercourse is not always visible, looking like a deep incision on the ground. Our project idealizes a large urban park that connects the three cities by exploiting the large green area coinciding with the torrent of Torcicoda. The center is multi-functional for both the university and the city. It is a cultural and recreational meeting place with various research laboratories, bookshops, exhibition halls, refreshment locals, a theater for concerts and plays, student residences and shops. The subject of our study is memory, that is "to lead to consistency the pressures of contemporary life and those of memory through the analysis of the city which is the storage of memory." The architecture of the city has shapes, geometries, relationships and feelings that follow each other by defining an urban identity; from there on, the project idea is to trigger the forms of the first urban plan of high Enna in the park.
